Why What You Eat Makes You Infertile

Recently, scientists have zeroed in on a small list of foods they now believe can help prevent and heal disease. Even the FDA has finally jumped on the antioxidant bandwagon; and all across the country people are crunching cruciferous vegetables to ward off cancer.

If what you eat affects whether you will contract cancer, or whether you are putting yourself at risk for heart disease, then why wouldn’t your diet affect your fertility, or your ability to carry a pregnancy to term? Certainly there is reason to believe that what you eat affects your reproductive abilities, at least in broad terms: famine victims, for example, are unlikely to conceive. And everyone has heard about too much coffee can lead to miscarriage.

No one has yet done extensive research on how diets that have been linked to heart attack, stroke, and cancer prevention might also combat infertility and help prevent miscarriage. A fully tested infertility diet would require many years to complete. Although no one has conducted a long term medical study on a complete diet, many foods have been studied in isolation. Several hundred medical studies in the past ten years have begun to establish a promising link between nutrition and fertility.
